Wings of Wax

Melancholic Power Ballad / Icarus Tale

The Story

Remember Icarus? He was warned not to fly too close to the sun. He did it anyway.

“Wings of Wax” is the story of a love that promised everything – wings of gold and light, a kingdom in the clouds, forever. We aimed for the stars without looking down. And then the air got thin, the wings began to melt, and the ocean was waiting below.

A song about the glory of the climb and the silence after the fall – for everyone who once believed they could fly.

Lyrics

We aimed for the stars, we left the ground
No fear of the heights, no looking down
You promised me wings of gold and light
To leave all the shadows of the night
But close to the sun, the air gets thin
I saw the end before the begin

We were flying so high
Before the fall

Now the wings are melting, turning into wax
Gravity is calling, there's no way back!
We crashed into the ocean, lost beneath the waves
Silence under water, in our watery graves
You said we'd live forever, a kingdom in the clouds
But now the silence is screaming loud!

The pieces of us are dripping down
A shattered king without a crown
I reach for your hand, but grasp the air
A moment of glory and nothing is there
The warning was written in burning red
But I followed every word you said!

Falling from the sky
Into the dark!

I blame the sun! I blame the heat!
I blame the ground beneath my feet!
But most of all I blame the lie
That we were never meant to fly!

Now the wings are melting, turning into wax
Gravity is calling, there's no way back!
We crashed into the ocean, lost beneath the waves
Silence under water, in our watery graves
You said we'd live forever, a kingdom in the clouds
But now the silence is screaming loud!

Just wax and feathers
